Eliza Coupe Has Found Her ‘Calling’

Eliza Coupe is best known from bringing the funny thanks to her sublime sitcom Happy Endings and so wrong it’s right webseries, Frenemies. But in her new movie, Shanghai Calling, Coupe proves her heart is as strong as her funny bone.

The fish out of water tale casts Coupe as Amanda, a relocation specialist who is tasked with helping Sam (played by Daniel Henney) acclimate to his new surroundings in Shanghai. But filming the movie on location in China led Coupe to wish she had an Amanda of her own.

In addition to opening up about this amazing moviemaking experience (as well as hooking ETonline up with an exclusive clip!), Coupe talks about the current season of Happy Endings and previews a couple fun surprises coming in the near future.

ETonline: Shanghai Calling actually filmed in China. Did that immersion help you step into the character’s shoes?
Eliza Coupe: Yes, and I’m going to steal that from you because that’s exactly how it felt. There’s nothing like being on location and throwing yourself into the world you’re representing. We were really there. My character was supposed to have been living there so she knew the language, but I had never been to China, so I felt more like Daniel’s character — which is funny because David’s lived in Asia a lot, so he ended up teaching me a lot in our off-time. But I have to say, filming this movie was one of the best experiences of my life.

“Happy Endings” Spoilers from E! Online

Rachel in Pittsburgh: Happy Endings scoop??
Max is entering a…wait for it…gay beauty pageant. Yes, you read that right. There’s even a category called “Gay Fitness.” And it’s up to Dave and Alex to help him win. And that is how we get a flashback to Dave’s childhood where he sings “I Got You, Babe” dressed as half Sonny Bono and half Cher. We could not love this show more.

James Lesure to Guest-Star on “Happy Endings”

Remember how TVLine told you that when SVU vet Stephanie March guest-stars on Happy Endings as a never-before-seen Kerkovich sister, that her Brooke will “out-Jane” Jane?

Well as it turns out, Brooke even has her own Brad!

TVLine has learned that James Lesure (TBS’ Men at Work, Las Vegas) will appear in the same episode as Brooke’s well-dressed, smooth-as-silk fiance Elliot.

Brad, upon meeting his future brother-in-law, feels not solidarity but a tinge of contempt, seeing as he fancies himself “the Jackie Robinson of the Kerkovich family,” having broken down any color barriers that Jane’s folks had up.

Happy Endings, which is currently on an unplanned hiatus, relocates to Fridays beginning March 29. Lesure’s episode will likely air in late April/early May.

Sing along with Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael in first ‘Ass Backwards’ clip

Who says a buddy road trip comedy is reserved for the boys’ club? In Ass Backwards, which premiered at a Sundance Midnight screening last week, Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael star as two best friends who leave New York to compete in a pageant in their hometown. Obviously, hilarity and roadtrip sing alongs, like the one in the clip below, ensue. EW spoke with writers and stars Wilson and Raphael about the film, which is based on an actual road trip the real life friends took just after college.

“Spirits are very high even though we’ve just been evicted out of our apartment, our characters are very optimistic that everything’s going to be OK,” says Raphael of the clip.

“There’s only one problem,” Wilson adds,”which is that our CD skips. But it’s OK, because we’ve memorized all the skips.”

Check out the sneak peek of Ass Backwards here.
